Man bags 3 years in jail for resisting arrest...

A man named Obinna Nwafor has been sentenced to three years in prison by Jos Upper Area Court on Thursday. The tricycle operator was charged for resisting arrest.

Nwafor, whose address was not stated, had pleaded guilty to a count charge of resisting arrest and begged for mercy.

The judge, Yahaya Mohammed, in his judgment, however, gave the convict an option of N5,000 fine.

Mohammed said the sentence would serve as deterrence to others.

The Prosecutor, Sgt Ibrahim Gukwat, had told the court that the matter was reported by Insp. Lawal Habu and his team on Sept. 25

Gukwat said Nwafor wrongfully parked his tricycle on a public road and refused all pleas to properly park the tricycle.

The prosecutor said when Nwafor refused to park properly, an officer ordered for his arrest but he resisted and rode away with the officer in the tricycle to unknown direction.

Gukwat said the offence contravened Section 144 of the Penal Code.
